Congratulations on your recent engagement! This is such a special milestone in your relationship- I encourage you to soak it all in! With that being said, I imagine it won't be long before you schedule your engagement photos. I know life can get hectic and let me tell ya- time FLIES!...But remember, you'll only have this moment once, so you should make the most of it!!
1. Location
Think about a place that best represents your interests- do you two love skiing or snowboarding? You can have your photos done at one of Colorado's ski resorts! There's downtown Denver for those chic city vibes, Garden of the Gods if you guys like red rock and of course endless mountain locations. Was your first date at the movies? How cute would a shoot at your local Drive-In be?!
2. Include sentimental details
Think about all the firsts at the start of your relationship and anything you may have saved...tickets to the first concert you attended together, first piece of jewelry, first photo you have together, bring alllll the sentimental details! Maybe you two met in college and loved attending your school's football games together, bring out those old tees or jerseys :) Is there a favorite place you two enjoy hanging out at during your free time? Bring an item from there! One of my couples really loved visiting a brewery in the Breckenridge area, they decided to bring hats that they purchased from the brewery and two canned drinks to cheers with during their shoot- it was so cute!
3. Make it a date
I have blankets and a foldable table that's perfect for a picnic set up! Bring a bottle of wine and some of your favorite snacks- you two can get cozy for some documentary style photos. Was one of your first dates at restaurant or bar? Revisit those places and order a to-go item to bring! Playing your favorite board game is another fun date idea that works for both a picnic set up outside and indoor sessions :)
4. Get your hair, makeup and nails done
When you look good, you feel good! Trust me, when you're feelin' your best, it shows in the photos. One thing I regret from my session is not getting my roots touched up, lol. In the moment I just didn't feel like making myself an appointment and I definitely regretted it looking back... And while we're here, I can edit out some unwanted blemishes here and there, but girl, don't show up with chipped nail polish!!! Lol! I won't judge either way, but just know that your nails will definitely be visible in engagement photos and that's not really fixable in the editing process. Treat yourself :) Pampering isn't just for the ladies either- guys, you need a fresh cut too!
5. Outfits
Most photographers allow for an outfit change in your booking- take advantage of that! I mean why not?! It can feel like you got two sessions out of one. I always recommend having one casual and one formal outfit picked out. Some of my favorite stores that I've had the most luck with finding good outfits at: Altar'd State, Old Navy, Madewell, Abercrombie, Target, Eddie Bauer, H&M and Aerie is the best for those cozy oversized tops!
